Family portraits in your home and garden

07th October 2015
Most photographers in Peterborough specialise in family portraits against a white background. However, I prefer to create your family portraits somewhere that you have an emotional connection with. Your home and garden is often the first place to consider.

Sometimes families tell me their garden is nothing special so it wouldn't be appropriate. That's not actually true at all. A solitary tree with sunlight flickering through the leaves can work wonders. A simple shed wall or some ivy creeping up the side of your house can both create a great textured background for your family portraits.
When you're at home you and your children will feel more relaxed than in a studio. Everyone feels more comfortable and in control of their surroundings and this means you end up with more natural expressions in the photographs.

Another advantage is that if the photographs are created somewhere that holds special memories for you then they'll be even more special in 20 years. Every time you look at the portraits hanging on your wall all those happy times you had in your home will come flooding back. Maybe you'll have moved house by then so it will help you remember what your old home looked like.

When you're at home you can also do a quick costume change if you want some extra variety in the images, or if you realise your colours are clashing with another family member. By the way, one of the things that makes me different from the other photographers in Peterborough is that I always meet my family portrait clients before we book the session. One of the things I discuss in that chat is the kind of clothing that works best in photography.

Finally, it's just a lot more fun to be photographed rampaging around your garden, snuggled on your bed or exploring your favourite wood with your dog.

If this is the kind of photography experience you'd prefer then please give me a call on 0792 358 3658 to find out more.
