Flaxbourne Gardens - the best outdoor wedding venue
/Flaxbourne Gardens is the best outdoor wedding venue I’ve photographed at. The gardens have so many beautiful and quirky features that will wow your guests. They are also wonderful for creating unique and creative wedding photography.
I’m very proud they have chosen one of my photographs as the front cover for their new brochure.
Flaxbourne’s award winning gardens were created by Geoff and Davina Barrett in the early 1980s and boast fantastic and eclectic features such as…
The cave and waterfall entrance
To access the marquee and reception area your guests will walk into a cave entrance that tunnels through a hill and under a waterfall. What a brilliant first impression for your guests!
The Roman Triple Arch
This imposing stone arch makes the perfect backdrop for your wedding and an ideal spot for doing group photographs. It’s next to a bridge over a moat and guests gather here with their drinks to look at the fish below.
A beautifully crafted treehouse
Your guest’s children will love exploring the treehouse and just like so many of the features at Flaxbourne Gardens it makes a wonderful prop for your wedding photography.
And the list goes on and on…
A moated castle
A ruined Greek temple
A Dutch windmill
A Gypsy caravan
A giant wooden crocodile
Arches and bridges
Lily pond
Landscaped flower beds
A multitude of quirky ornaments to discover
And it’s not just that there are so many interesting and stunning things to see; it’s the way it has all been woven together like a fantastic, fantasy maze with a surprise around every corner.
The marquee and toilet facilities
The Flaxbourne Gardens marquee holds up to 180 guests and includes a bar, dance floor and the catering facilities. It can be heated if the weather is chilly and one side of the marquee can be rolled up if it’s hot.
Just across the lawn and in a quaint nook are the purpose built toilets (don’t worry, they’re not portaloos!
Wonderful staff
Having photographed lots of weddings I know how important it is for couples to have a good relationship with the venue team. Trust me, not all venues feel very welcoming but Beckie and Paul who run Flaxbourne Gardens are a joy to work with. Their enthusiasm, helpfulness and positivity is clear, even in their emails. They’re so welcoming that even pets are allowed to their weddings. In my book these are the kind of people you want around you wedding!
Catering options
Paul is not own the proprietor of Flaxbourne Gardens, but he’s also the head chef and manages all the catering. You can have a choice of meal styles including the traditional ‘sit down’ wedding breakfast, barbecues, hog roasts, afternoon tea, canapes, street food stalls and so on. If you have catering needs that Flaxbourne cannot accommodate then you’re able to bring in your own caterers for a fee.
Accommodation at Flaxbourne Gardens
You’re welcome to book their tipis or bring your own tents / camper van and camp onsite. Alternatively there are many hotels and B&Bs nearby that they can recommend.
Final thoughts
If you want a wedding venue with a unique style and an emphasis on nature and the outdoors then Flaxbourne Gardens is a perfect choice. Everything about it will make you smile, from the wonderful team to the endless surprises and and fun details that have clearly been made with love.
